Apple Pear Oatmeal Crisp

OnSugar
It's harvest time for apples and pears, and nothing says Autumn like warm crisp featuring both Fall fruits. Here is a variation of a recipe from RecipeZaar. I substituted a few things like Sucanat for brown sugar, whole wheat flour for all-purpose flour, and Earth Balance margarine in place of butter. The soft, cinnamony fruit and crunchy oat topping are a perfect combination, and it was so delicious that my family polished off the entire crisp within a day.

Stop Throwing Produce Away!

The produce guys at Whole Foods recommended these things to put in the frig to make your produce last longer. They said that they really do work. I just got them last week and I'm testing them out. I will keep you updated and let you know if they work or not.

I got a few- one for the vegetable drawer, fruit drawer, counter produce bowl, and produce shelf in the frig.
Don't make the mistake I did----The little bag that goes in the plastic egg, don't open it! I opened it to put he little rocks in the egg and they fell right through, made a mess every where, if water touches those rocks it leaves a brown stain. Just put the bags unopened in the containers and stick in the frig. They are $10 and last 3 months, but it will be worth every penny if it works to help my produce last longer.

Juice Kaboose

The Juice Kaboose is located in La Jolla and serves fresh vegetable juice. I just wish they had organic produce.
7556 Fay Ave
(between Kline St & Pearl St)
La Jolla, CA 92037

They carry these bags of kale chips. I have not tried them from here, but I love that it is real health food in bagged and ready to go.

They carry the Perfect Foods Bar as and the Organic Foods Bar that I like.
I'm not suppose to eat the Perfect Foods Bar because I'm allergic to peanuts, but Christa said how good it was, so I had to try it. It is so delicious I wish I would have just stayed away. I heard they are working on an Almond Butter Bar, which would solve the problem if you are allergic to peanuts. I tastes like cookie dough. It is really high in calories and is more like a meal replacement bar, or cut it in 1/2 for a snack. They also have a lite cranberry one that is less calories and is very yummy! They sell them in the refrigerated sections at Henry's, Whole Foods, and Jimbos. They are expensive bars, but at least you know you are putting high quality food in your body not junk food disguised as health food, which is what you deserve!

Allergy Friendly Bars

I just love these raw food bars- great if you have any food allergies. The Chocolate chip is my favorite because it tastes good and it is 200 calories instead of the other bars that are 310. They are pretty expensive, so I will workout trying to make them myself. There are a good choice when needing something packaged to travel with or to have on hand.
